The Master of Fine Arts in Writing Program, in coordination with the undergraduate English department, is thrilled to announce that MFA poet has been named the Fall 2025 Kwame Dawes Mapmakers Teaching Assistantship. In this role, Sarah will teach alongside faculty member Scott Korb, also director of the MFA, in their section of English 180, Writing and Research, which has a focus on food. Sarah will host office hours and lead two sessions of the class on her own, and will also be bringing her experience as a community leader and yoga instructor to the students (and the professor!).
About the opportunity, Sarah says,
I am honored to receive the Kwame Dawes Mapmakers Teaching Assistantship. Through this role, I hope to deepen my understanding of academic essay writing while expanding my somatic, trauma-informed, and community-based teaching approach to the undergraduate classroom. Being mentored by Scott Korb is a bonus; I have no doubt he will help me grow as a facilitator and educator. For our students, I aim to be an advocate. I will help them find clarity in their writing through mindfulness exercises, develop the technical skills and confidence needed as writers, and connect their research to their lived experiences and broader social contexts. Ultimately, my goal is to meet students where they are鈥攈onoring their diverse backgrounds鈥攚hile maintaining the rigorous academic standards that will serve them throughout their educational and professional journeys."
Many congratulations to Sarah on this recognition!
