Dr. Shanley鈥檚 research and clinical interests focus on parent-child interactions, parenting programs, evidence-based programs/practices, and dissemination and implementation of evidence-based program into community settings. Specifically, she has extensive experience with evidence-based parenting programs that address child behavior disorders, parenting issues, child maltreatment, and childhood obesity. Dr. Shanley鈥檚 research interests encompass parenting of young children and improving implementation strategies to reduce barriers to access and engagement in evidence-based parent support programs, with the long-range goal to better reach families and promote healthy child development through broad implementation and sustainability of these programs.
Dr. Shanley has extensive knowledge of and experience with national and international implementations of behavioral parent support programs, including the evidence-based programs Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and SafeCare庐. Specifically, her experiences include training, consulting, and offering technical assistance with graduate students and community-based providers, and collaborating with agency administration and government personnel to plan, initiate and sustain these programs. She also has significant experience in developing, revising and adapting parenting curricula both for domestic and international implementations. Dr. Shanley鈥檚 recent research efforts include serving as the co-Principal Investigator of an NIH R21 grant (1R21HD094227-01A1) to assess the parenting culture and service system in Kenya to inform the adaptation and initial implementation of SafeCare for its first implementation in Africa.
